Big Rewards
A 1995 national study proved that Big Brothers Big Sisters - when working closely with agency staff - have a profound and positive influence. When compared with their peers, Little Brothers and Sisters are:
- 46% less likely to start using drugs and 27% less likely to start drinking.
- 52% less likely to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip class.
- More trusting of their parents or guardians, less likely to lie to them, and feel more supported and less criticized by their peers and friends.
BBBS School-Based Mentoring Evaluation of Five Pilot Programs showed:
- 64% of students developed more positive attitudes toward school.
- 58% achieved higher grades in social studies, languages, and math
- 64% developed high levels of self-confidence
