Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Bridge partnered with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Red Barons to create a memorable evening for “Bigs” and “Littles” in the program. On Friday, August 26, 2005, board members, staff, volunteers and clients watched the Red Barons defeat the Pawtucket Red Sox at the Lackawanna County Stadium.  “Bigs” and “Littles” from Carbon, Columbia, Luzerne, Monroe and Wyoming counties were in attendance. Big Brothers Big Sisters board member, Homer Berlew of Trans-Med Ambulance, Inc. wholly sponsored the event.

The festivities began with a tailgate party prior to the game. Big Brothers Big Sisters board member, John Bauman of Pepsi Co. provided refreshments and hoagies were provided by Gerrity’s Supermarket on Wyoming Avenue in Wyoming at a discount.  Following the tailgate, attendees were escorted onto the field prior to the game for the National Anthem.

“Little Brother” Ryan P., from the Hazleton Area threw the first pitch of the evening. Ryan was chosen as the first place winner of Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Bridge annual essay contest.  Ryan wrote an exceptional essay about what his “Big Brother” Bill Wentzel means to him and was honored at the game for his fine work. Ryan also received four tickets to Knoebels Amusement Park.
